Special Smiles Health Screenings at Denver Regional Basketball Sunday, May 8 has been cancelled.
Amid growing concerns over the Coronavirus, we are taking measures to be proactive, while making thoughtful but cautious decisions around our programs and events with the safety of all our participants in mind. After consulting with our Special Smiles clinicians and our Healthy Athletes team, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Special Smiles clinic at the Denver Regional Basketball tournament this Sunday.

Due to the nature of the event, with the hand to mouth contact that the screenings require, we, and our clinicians, all agreed that it would be in the best interest of all participants to cancel the screenings at this event. The safety and well-being of all our athletes and our clinicians is our utmost priority and we make all these decisions with them in mind.

All other Healthy Athletes events and Regional and State competitions will continue to move forward as previously scheduled. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
We are asking that all athletes, staff, volunteers, coaches, caregivers and fans not participate in or attend any SOCO related activities if they are sick, exhibit any signs and symptoms or have been around anyone who is ill or exhibiting signs and symptoms.

Of course, all are advised to seek appropriate medical care and to consult with a licensed health care professional in cases of illness.

Illness Prevention

Currently, we are focusing on general illness prevention while also looking at the possible escalation of our response as needed.

The following precautions are recommended:

  • Wash your hands often with soap for at least 20 seconds (especially after using restroom, sneezing, coughing, etc.)
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow instead of hands
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
